The Makeshift Museum will host a vibrant exhibition program of some of our most exciting and relevant contemporary artist working today.  Featuring Solo and Group exhibitions, each exhibition will be supported be a Catalog/Book in support of exhibitions. The Makeshift Museum will house a bookstore similar to the neighboring ‘Hennessey & Ingalls, the new ICA LA and Artbooks @ Hauser, Schimmel & Wirth. Like them, we will host solo & group exhibitions from noteworthy artists nationwide. But different from these organizations we will have Programs & Workshops that focus on the surrounding neighborhoods that have been left out of the experience of contemporary art during the development of the arts district. To outreach to our neighbors, we envision during the first year Art & Photography Classes for both Pre-K -12 and Adults, especially Seniors. Classes will include documentary photography and sketching by exploring social environments, shape, line, and color in the medium of abstract, figurative and still life inspired works.  Dialogue and communication is essential to the life and sustainability of our communities, and we will be hosting a Lecture Series by noted artists featuring Artist Talks, Panel Discussions and Readings. We will also host Film & Video screenings of art documentaries, features and short films. Many independent video and film stars of tomorrow are the rising You Tube stars of today, and we will provide their first breakout showings in the Makeshift Museum. Los Angeles has a vibrant Literary community but it is in real need of a center for the presentation of their works. They will find the Makeshift Museum a great venue to present their work, particularly because Art Voices Art Books is so sympathetic to the spoken and written word. We are partnering with several established ‘book clubs’ in California. As part of the programming we will host monthly Poetry slams by noted poets nationwide And finally we are pleased to introduce the Arts District’s first Chess Club, open to all who pre-register.
